Define a useful answer

Before choosing a model, write representative questions and describe what a useful answer must contain. Include cases where the right response is to ask for more information or hand the task to a person.

Connect the right sources

Identify which documents and systems may inform the answer. Define access rules and update requirements. In a retrieval-based experience, make supporting sources available so a person can inspect the context.

Evaluate the complete experience

Review the system using representative inputs, including difficult and incomplete requests. Evaluate the retrieval, the response, the user interface, and the handoff together. Keep consequential actions behind appropriate human approval.

Measure quality over time

Track concrete signals such as answer relevance, correct citations, acceptance rate, and escalation rate. Reassess when sources change or usage shifts to prevent drift.

Guard access and outputs

Apply permission-aware retrieval, redact sensitive details where appropriate, log consequential actions, and enforce rate limits to keep results safe and accountable.
